McKay Building Replacement Project Facts and Figures
The BYU–Hawaii Board of Trustees has committed to making an unprecedented investment in the future of BYU–Hawaii. This investment will renew the university’s buildings and infrastructure for the next 50 years. BYU–Hawaii is blessed to have the Board of Trustees fully engaged in discussions and decision-making at every stage of this process.
Over the span of five years, the center of the BYU–Hawaii campus will be under construction and renovation. The David O. McKay Classroom Building, Flag Circle, Aloha Center, and McKay Faculty Building will be replaced with five new buildings. The south end of the Joseph F. Smith Library will be demolished. The Flag Circle will move northward, and the plaza will extend from the existing Aloha Plaza all the way across campus to the Heber J. Grant Building. These new buildings will house classrooms, offices, conference rooms, an auditorium, stores, a snack bar, a welcome center, a post office, tutoring spaces, and student recreational spaces. Most buildings will be two-story buildings with one three-story building towards the back of campus.
